I’ve seen some of the wildest acts in Thailand’s famous sex shows—women performing tricks like shooting ping pong balls, popping balloons, or even pulling out razor blades. Some shows go further with acts like smoking cigarettes or surprising the audience with live creatures. These performances are designed to shock and grab attention, and at first, they definitely do.
But once the initial surprise fades, what really sticks with you is a sense of sadness. The women don’t look like they’re enjoying themselves. Instead, they often seem tired, resigned, and like they’re just going through the motions. It’s clear this is work for them, not a choice made out of passion or joy. I have a lot of respect for their strength and resilience, but it’s hard not to feel a bit heartbroken knowing these acts are largely put on for Western tourists.
If you do decide to attend one of these shows, please treat the performers with respect and kindness. Pay them well, and don’t be the drunk guy at the front making a scene or acting like an asshole. These women deserve dignity, and a little decency from the audience goes a long way in what can otherwise be a tough environment.
At the end of the day, if you’re chasing excitement, these shows might give you a moment of disbelief or shock, but honestly, they’re not worth your time or energy. Thailand has so much more to offer—rich culture, stunning landscapes, and genuine human connections. So if you’re visiting, I’d encourage you to seek out experiences that uplift and respect everyone involved, rather than ones that exploit and disappoint.
